Just a little Grace...

Just a little Grace... I say it all the time.  We all just need a little grace. We're all just doing the best we can and for goodness sake, we just need a little grace!  But what does that mean? And how do we show grace to others? Grace has a couple of definitions in Websters, depends on how you use it but one that shines to me is this one...

"... courteous goodwill". Wow! Courteous goodwill.  Grace.

How many times this week were you courteous to others? Were others courteous to you? How many times this week did you show or exhibit goodwill towards others? Were you fortunate to receive goodwill? I'm not talking about BIG things, after all it truly sometimes is the tiniest things that matter.  Did you smile at someone who was not smiling? Did you say Good Morning to someone who you usually don't? Did you tell someone thank you or tell someone that their hair looks great? See, these are all the smallest of things but for some, it's exactly what they need.  What if you were the ONLY person who said any of those things to someone?

Grace, my friends, should cause us all to live with our eyes wide open and continuously search out situations where we can be kind and helpful.  In today's crazy, fast paced world where most of the times, our heads are down because we are on our phones or on our computers or we just think we don't have the time to participate, but please hear me when I tell you, you DO have time.  You DO have the ability to give those around you just a little grace.

I have been watching the trial of the  Dallas Police officer who was just convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.  What I want to discuss is not the trial and all the specifics of who or what is right or wrong, I want to discuss the grace that the deceased man's brother exhibited to that police officer.  And the grace that the judge exhibited to that police officer. Agree with it or not, those are prime examples of grace and forgiveness.  Agree with it or not, perhaps what happened will have a profound effect on that police officer, that human being, that woman.... perhaps she will use her time in prison to develop an attitude of grace and be able to give back what, for a brief few min, was given to her in that court room.

I believe that all situations happen for a reason and sometimes boy do we wonder what in the world the reason is for whatever is going on as it is probably challenging us to our wits end. But I firmly believe that again, everything happens for a reason.  And perhaps if we really pay attention, we will realize that some situations happen to us so that we can receive some grace.  Others happen so we can give grace.  Look around, with your eyes wide open and your head up high.  Where can you give grace this week? Be conscious of those who give you grace and be thankful beyond measure that you receive it.

Watch what you say.... always!
